How Do You Get Your Mail When You're Traveling Full Time in an RV?

How Do You Get Your Mail When You’re Traveling Full Time in an RV?

A question we hear a lot from people looking to start full time rving is “How do you get your mail?”. There are really lots of ways you can accomplish this.

You will have to set up your domicile somewhere. This is important because wherever you set up your domicile, you will also need a physical address. You can get a lot of your bills sent as paperless billing. However, you will still need a place for your vehicle tags and stuff like that to be sent.

Friends and Family

Friends and family

This is a great free option, but you will have to make sure that it is someone that you can fully trust. After all, you will be receiving your personal mail there and will be trusting them to forward your mail to you.

We use Forest’s parent’s address. It works for us because if it’s something that looks important, they call us right away and then we tell them what to do with it. Sometimes we will have then open it and tell us what it is. Othertimes we have them mail it to us without opening it.

Mail Forwarding Services

Mail Forwarding Services

A mail forwarding service gives you a physical address that you can send your mail to. They will then forward the mail to you to a location of your choosing.

All U.S. post offices provide free General Delivery mail service where you can have your mail sent to the post office and you can pick it up. Find a USPS in the area you’re visiting and get their general delivery address. Please note that they won’t accept any UPS or FedEx, just regular mail.

Be sure to do your research on the one you decide to use. Everyone is different in their own way. The differences range from what state they are in, how much they cost, features they provide, and general usability.

America’s Mailbox has a $25 start-up fee. Their cheapest plan only allows you to get 7 pieces of mail a year. It averages to be about $12.50 a month. They have a $50 – $100 suggested postage fund, which personally I think is kind of ridiculous since you are only allowed 7 pieces of mail on this plan. They do offer vehicle registration for you for an additional fee, but to take advantage of this, you have to sign a Power of Attorney form.
