Staying Safe While RVing

Staying Safe While RVing

In my opinion, it’s pretty easy to stay safe while RVing. Most RV parks are pretty safe and most everyone is friendly.

The fastest way to become a statistic though is to think it will never happen to you. Here are some ways to help keep you safe while traveling.

Lock your RV

The first probably sounds like a no brainer, but you would be surprised how many people don’t do this. Get in the habit of locking your RV every time you leave it.

It only takes a couple of minutes for someone to quickly sneak into your RV and swipe a few items while you run out quick.

While we were workamping at an RV park, we had a couple come to the restrooms in the middle of the night. While they were there they took the mirror off the wall. What they didn’t think about though is that we had cameras everywhere. I went back through the camera footage and figured out exactly who it was.

Instead of confronting the couple, we simply put a sign in the place of the mirror. The sign simply said “We know who you are and we saw what you did. Now please put it back.” Clearly they saw the sign and their conscience got the better of them. The next morning, the mirror was back in the bathroom where it belonged.

It just goes to show you that you never know who your neighbors actually are.

Check Your RV Before Traveling

I have seen many people hook up to their RV and take off without double-checking everything. People forget things like surge protectors, their vent roofs open, stairs still out, and much more.

These incidents could have been avoided by simply creating a checklist and going over it before taking off.

Invest in Road Side Assistance

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how careful you try to be. Accidents can still happen. There could be a nail in the road or have an engine problem or many other things.

The first time we went full-timing, the engine went out on our tow vehicle halfway to our first workamping position. This was in spite of taking it to a Ford garage and having them inspect it and tell us everything was great with it. We did not have roadside assistance either. Lesson learned the hard way!

Get a Pet Monitoring System

Okay, so this may not be for everyone, but there are quite a few that travel with pets.

There are many Pet Monitoring systems out there, so make sure you do your research on which one is the best fit for you.

Don’t Post Your Exact Position on Social Media

There are people out there that post their position on social media while they are there. This can be dangerous because you never know who is watching.

We have never had a problem with people knowing our position, but you can never be too careful!

We absolutely love rving and think that it is completely safe (as long as you take the proper precautions). In conclusion, we hope that these tips will help you develop your own routines to make your trips both safe and enjoyable!
